Island Grown Initiative

Island Grown Initiative (IGI) is a not-for-profit grassroots organization that supports the small family farmers on Martha’s Vineyard and raises awareness about the importance of locally grown food. IGI is proud to be a Represented Member of NSAC.

IGI is a community non-profit on Martha’s Vineyard. They were founded in 2005 by a group of farmers, grocers, feed store owners, cooks, food writers, educators and parents. Their mission is to increase both the supply and demand of locally grown food, for the health of our island environment and community and for the family farmers who keep agriculture alive on the Vineyard.

IGI is a part of a long-standing movement on the Vineyard to protect local farm land, support farming families, and provide the freshest local food to island visitors and residents.

Their mission is to increase both the supply and demand of locally grown food, for the health of our island environment and community and for the family farmers who keep agriculture alive on the Vineyard.

They have five core programs :

1 – Island Grown Schools – our farm-to-school program

2 – Island Grown Meat

3 – Island Grown Poultry

4 – Island Grown Bees

5 – Island Grown Gleaning
